Enova Power Corp. launches new electrical safety campaign with local fire services
Key takeaways:
Enova Power has launched “Look. Live.,” an electrical safety campaign developed with fire services across its service territory.
The campaign responds to a five-per-cent drop in residents who agree Enova Power makes electrical safety a top priority, and to national data showing electrical failures are a factor in nearly one in five home fires.

No action is required to take part — the campaign shares information through channels residents already use.
WATERLOO REGION (Sept. 15, 2026) – Enova Power Corp. (Enova Power) has launched “Look. Live.,” a new public education campaign developed with fire services across the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo, the Township of Woolwich, the Township of Wilmot and the Township of Wellesley to help residents recognize and avoid electrical hazards at home, outdoors, and around downed power lines.
Mechanical or electrical failures are a factor in nearly one in five residential fires across Canada, according to Statistics Canada, contributing to 18 per cent of home fire incidents and 15 per cent of fire-related injuries between 2015 and 2021. Locally, Enova Power sees the same risks: overloaded circuits, damaged extension cords and aging wiring remain among the most preventable hazards in the homes it serves.
The campaign responds to both that national trend and to Enova Power’s most recent Public Awareness of Electrical Safety Survey, which found a five-per-cent drop in residents who agree the utility makes electrical safety a top priority. Enova Power is working to rebuild that confidence over the next 12 months through plain-language safety tips, school and community outreach, and joint messaging with local first responders.
Simple steps to stay safe
Through the fall and winter, “Look. Live.” will share safety reminders through paid ads, social media, enovapower.com and community events, including:
Inspecting extension cords and outlets regularly, and avoiding overloaded circuits or power bars
Staying at least 10 metres back from a downed power line and calling 911 and Enova Power’s emergency line immediately
Checking overhead clearance before raising ladders, antennas or drones near power lines
Keeping space heaters and holiday lighting on a dedicated, undamaged circuit
Recognizing the warning signs of an unsafe outlet, such as warmth, buzzing or a burning smell
“Safety and well-being above all is one of Enova Power’s core values, and that doesn’t stop at our equipment — it includes how comfortable people feel around electricity in their everyday lives,” says Enova Power President & CEO Greig Cameron. “Partnering with the fire services who respond alongside our crews means residents hear one consistent, trusted safety message.”
Fire services partners will share campaign materials through their own channels, and Enova Power will track reach, engagement and recall throughout the campaign, with results measured against the next bi-annual Public Awareness of Electrical Safety Survey.
